California EVSE Compliance Deadlines Explained

Plain-English timing guidance for commercial AC and DC EVSE in California.

California6 min

The key dates

California deadlines depend on charger type and installation date. AC EVSE installed before January 1, 2021 has a January 1, 2031 compliance deadline. AC EVSE installed on or after January 1, 2021 should comply upon installation.

DC EVSE installed before January 1, 2023 has a January 1, 2033 compliance deadline. DC EVSE installed on or after January 1, 2023 should comply upon installation.

Why deadlines are only the start

The date does not tell you whether the charger record is clean, the display is visible, the pricing method is clear, or the site has the right documentation. Operators should map every port against type, installation date, billing method, and inspection status.

Confirm before relying

This page is informational and not legal advice. Confirm requirements with CDFA-DMS, your County Sealer, and the applicable authority having jurisdiction.
